Ryan Hanger is a Boston-based musician attending the College of Fine Arts at Boston University. He is currently studying for his Performance Diploma in Voice with Professor David Guzmán. He is also training in classical piano. He has experience in a wide range of vocal styles, from classic rock, classical, and pop to musical theatre. His other interests include acting, choral singing, and music composition and arranging. He graduated in May of 2024 from New York University with his Master of Music in Classical Voice, where he studied with Dr. Justin John Moniz. He also received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Southern Methodist University, under the tutelage of Barbara Hill-Moore.

2024 was a productive year for Ryan; he sang 3 major roles in 3 different productions both at NYU and Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. He has performed in a number of musicals, including Officer Pitman and Henry Etches in Titanic, the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince in Into the Woods, Oklahoma as Curly, South Pacific as Lieutenant Cable, Cabaret as Herr Schultz, Annie as FDR, and The Little Mermaid as King Triton. His opera experience includes Nero in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, the title role in Idomeneo, Ezekiel Cheever in The Crucible, and Joe Crowell in Our Town. In addition to his Bachelor of Music, he received a second degree in Business Management.

 

 

UPCOMING WORK

In October, Ryan will be appearing as the Regulator in Johnathan Dove’s Siren Song in collaboration with Boston University’s Opera Institute. He will also be covering the role of Davey. In 2025, he will be singing at the district-level auditions for the Metropolitan Opera Competition. He will appear as Gherardo in BU’s production of Gianni Schicchi.
